The project should know as little as possible.

Walk the Horizon is administered by Stephen Wadcock. For privacy matters, contact privacy@walkthehorizon.com.

The changing background uses London as its fallback and does not request location when you visit the site. If you choose “Use current location” when beginning a walk, the same approved coordinates also adjust the background to local solar conditions in your browser. They are not retained for the colour system.

Precise coordinates are sent to the project only after you choose “Use current location”. They are used transiently to establish timezone and sunset, then discarded. If location is declined, a town or city is sent to Open-Meteo’s geocoding service only for that calculation.

We collect an email address, one sanitised photograph, broad public locality, start and sunset times, optional reflection text, and private access-token hashes. We do not collect routes, distance, speed or continuous location. Image metadata is removed before storage.

Your email is used only for the sunset invitation, private return and withdrawal. It is sent to Resend to schedule and deliver the sunset email, and project correspondence is received through Microsoft 365 provided via GoDaddy. Names and email addresses are never public.

We delete readable email addresses 30 days after sunset. Rejected material is deleted promptly. If you withdraw, we remove the contribution from public presentation immediately and delete its live image, text and readable email promptly. Approved anonymous material and broad public metadata remain in the artwork unless withdrawn.

The public record contains only the photograph, broad locality, start and sunset times, and an independently arranged optional response. This notice will receive final UK legal and hosting-processor review before public launch.
